| The Cumbrian is a heavy duty tongue switch fitted with a side bolt actuator, suitable for harsh environments and where fast frequent access is required. The Cumbrian is capable of supporting Category 4 safety systems through it’s 2NC 1NO contacts and is suitable for all types of hinging and sliding access doors with a good tolerance for mis-aligned guarding. | ||||

| When the machinery is in operation the bolt is trapped and the power supply connected to the machine through the two normally closed contacts of the internal safety switch. If access is required then the door is simply opened releasing the bolt from the interlock housing. Releasing the bolt opens the contacts of the safety switch disconnecting the supply to the machine. The normally open contacts of the switch can be connected to an external circuit providing audible or visual indication of the open condition of the guard with the 2 normally closed contacts of the switch connected to a safety relay or contactor to control the operation of the machine. | ||||

The Cumbrian is designed to operate as part of an integrated safety system, controlling access to hazardous machines. A typical example of machine isolation and access, controlled through a safety relay, is shown below.
