KLC - Multiple Key Claw Interlock

Description

The KLC Lock is a multi-key operated mechanical bolt interlock suitable for the control of electrical switchgear. The standard unit comes with a 16mm diameter bolt fitted with a claw that is used to control the rotation or movement of operating handles or toggles of electrical switchgear. The lock is manufactured in brass or stainless steel making it ideally suited to use in harsh or corrosive environments.

Operation

The bolt movement is directly controlled by the rotation of the keys. The bolt length can be varied to suit the application and should be specified on ordering by quoting the ‘A’ dimension (see explanatory diagram). The claw details also need to be specified by quoting the ‘B’ and ‘D’ dimensions (see explanatory diagram). Key Exchange: The Primary Key is trapped, the Secondary Key is free and the bolt is extended. Insert secondary key and rotate, this enables rotation and removal of the primary key which allows the manual retraction of the bolt. The secondary key is now trapped in the lock. Double Key: The Primary and Secondary Key are free and the bolt is extended. Insertion and rotation of both keys will allow the manual retraction of the bolt.

Typical System

The KLC is designed to operate as part of an integrated safety system, controlling the operation of HV/LV switchgear. A typical example is shown below.

1. Switch locked OFF. Claw ended bolt
extended and locked. Secondary key free.

2. Intermediate. Secondary key inserted and
turned.Primary key rotated and removed, bolt
can be manually withdrawn.

3. Switch ON. Secondary key trapped, bolt
withdrawn.

System Description

The power supply is on and the secondary key is trapped in the KLC Lock. The isolator is turned to the ‘off’ position and the primary key inserted. The bolt is manually extended and the secondary key is released, locking the bolt in the extended position and the isolator off. The secondary key could then be used to open an ‘AI’ access lock on the HV cabinet.
